TED LASSO Star Brett Goldstein Joins Chris Pratt's GARFIELD Movie

Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) and Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) have joined Chris Pratt in the upcoming animated film adaptation of Jim Davis’ Garfield. The rest of the cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Cecily Strong, and Ving Rhames.

The movie is being directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, Emperor’s New Groove) and it’s based on the comic strip “Garfield,” which followed a cynical and lazy orange cat and his interactions with his owner, Jon Arbuckle, along with his pet dog, Odie.

Prat will play Garfield and Jackson will play a brand-new character created for the film, Garfield’s father, Vic. There’s no word on who Goldstein and Yang or the rest of the cast are playing in the movie.

I grew up reading the Garfield comics. I loved them and they always made me laugh. I owned a lot of those comic strip collection books and I loved all of those animated specials. But, I was not a fan of those previous films that were made. I really hope that this next attempt at a film adaptation works out better.

The script for the movie is being written by Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove and David Reynolds (Finding Nemo), with DNEG Animation animating and producing the film alongside Alcon Entertainment, John Cohen (Despicable Me, Angry Birds) and Steven P. Wegner.

Sony Pictures will release Garfield in theaters on May 24, 2024.
