THE ACOLYTE Star Manny Jacinto Reveals Original Plans Involved 3 Seasons and a Movie

Star Wars: The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto recently offered some insight regarding showrunner Leslye Headland’s ambitious plans for the show and reveals that the original plan for the series was three seasons and a feature film.

During a recent Fan Expo panel moderated by Collider, Jacinto, who portrayed Qimir in The Acolyte, shared Headland’s extensive vision for the Star Wars series.

He said: “I remember Leslye’s dream was for us to do three seasons, not just this one… But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes it so much more special.

“So, yeah, I don’t know if I’d do it or not, but you know, three seasons and a movie would have been incredible, and I know we had so much more to explore with that second season.”

There are a lot of Star Wars fans that would’ve loved to see these plans play out, but as you know, Disney cancelled the Lucasfilm series after only one season leaving fans hanging.

Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman previously cited the show’s high production cost of over $230 million for eight episodes as the reason for its cancellation.

He said: “We were happy with our performance, but it wasn’t where we needed it to be given the cost structure of that title, quite frankly, to go and make a season two. So that’s the reason why we didn’t do that.”

Jacinto revealed that Season 2 would have explored key plotlines from the first season, including the role of Darth Plagueis, who briefly appeared in the finale.

The Acolyte expanded the Star Wars universe by exploring a new era. It tried to do something new, but in the end, it just didn’t work out.

Maybe the rest of the story will eventually be told in comic book or novel form.
