The Creator of THE BOYS Is Developing a "Much Darker" Take on James Bond in Comic Series
The co-creator of The Boys, Garth Ennis, is jumping into the world of James Bond with an all-new comic series. This is going to be a “much darker” take on the 007 franchise than we’ve seen before and the inspiration behind the story he is going to tell is rooted in the novels of Ian Fleming. This sounds like it’ll tell a cool story!
James Bond #1 is being developed for Dynamite Comics, and Ennis will be joined by veteran James Bond comic artist Rapha Lobosco, and the story is titled 'Your Cold, Your Heart', which features the iconic spy on a mission to track down a Cold War era super weapon.
The synopsis reads: "A relic of the Cold War, the deadly compound Stalvoda - roughly meaning 'steel water' in Russian - is thought to have achieved the impossible – the holy grail of arms manufacturers: is it possible to kill an enemy without inflicting any visible damage and leaving no trace whatsoever? Right as the weapon is perfected, though, it escapes the lab. MI6 naturally assigns their top operative to the hunt."
The James Bond comic will also feature appearances members of the Bond supporting characters including M, Q, and Moneypenny, as well as a brand new character named Archie Tryon, a scientist with a connection to Stalvoda.
Ennis said in the announcement: "When I took a look at the Bond of the Fleming novels, as opposed to the larger-than-life figure from the movies, I saw a great deal more potential - a much darker character in a more interesting world.”
