THE CROW Reboot Producer Says the Movie Will "Blow People Away" and It Could Launch an Extended Universe
After years of trying to get a new film adaptation of The Crow off the ground, it finally happened with director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Bill Skarsgård taking on the lead role. The film has wrapped production, but audiences still have yet to get a look at the visual style of the movie.
Regardless, producer Sam Pressman recently talked about the film and hyped it up, saying that it will "blow people away.” He also went on to tease that the movie could end up launching a whole extended universe for the franchise. He seems very confident that what they’ve done is going to be a big hit with fans.
He explained to Deadline: "The Crow has been a very central and integral part of our company and I'm really proud of the progress and the work that has been done. I think the movie is just going to blow people away. Our partners want to approach it in a very 360 way, whether it be video games, an animated series, or a universe, but it's got this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a singular story."
He added, "We're finally at a point where we can really explore those other avenues because it's such a unique property in that it is not a studio film, it's not a Marvel film -- it's kind of an anti-Marvel film. I have the highest hopes for that and I really love what Molly Hassell has done in pushing it up the hill and Rupert Sanders is such a visionary."
Skarsgård takes on the role of Eric Draven and the story follows a man and his fiancée who are assaulted and killed by a gang after their car breaks down. The man is resurrected by a crow and embarks on a dark journey of vengeance on those who took his life and the life of his fiancée.
The movie also stars singer-songwriter FKA twigs (Honeyboy), Danny Huston (Succession), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King). The movie will reimagine the 1994 cult classic which memorably starred Brandon Lee in his last film role.
The movie is based on the graphic novel of the gothic character created, written, and illustrated by James O’Barr. The script for the reboot comes from Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Will Schneider.
The movie was recently picked up by Lionsgate, but we don’t know when it will be released. Do you think that the movie will live up to the hype that the producer is setting?
