The FAST AND FURIOUS 9 Release Date Pushed Back a Whole Year

Remember that time when Vin Diesel was pretty much refusing to move the release date of Fast and Furious 9 over coronavirus? When asked about it earlier this week, he said, "We need movies now more than ever. We're already in a very interesting time where cinema and the cinematic experience is so threatened. So, yes, put it on record we're going to show up."

Well, it looks like he changed his mind. Or, at least Universal Studios made the decision for him. F9 was originally supposed to open in theaters on May 22nd, 2020. Well, the release of the film has now been pushed back a full year! It will now be released on April 2nd, 2021.

Vin Diesel made the following statement:

“We feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May.

“While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration.”

This is just one of many high-profile films that have been pushed back due to the coronavirus epidemic. John Krasinski just announced A Quiet Place Part II would be delayed and before that, No Time To Die was pushed back from April to November.

I get why they would want to push the released date for F9 back, but a whole year!? That’s a long time.
