THE FLASH Director Andy Muschietti Confirmed to Helm BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD
The Flash director Andy Muschietti is officially set to helm Batman: The Brave and the Bold for DC Studios! It was previously reported that he was DC’s top choice, and he’s a great choice to take on the project! He’s already played with two different versions of Batman in The Flash with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, but now he’s going to get to build a whole never version of Batman from the ground up!
The project is inspired by Grant Morrison's popular Batman comics run, and it will focus on Bruce Wayne's relationship with his biological son, Damian Wayne. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is said to be one of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s favorite projects.
Gunn and Safran said in a statement: “We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”
When previously talking about this project, Gunn said: “So this is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch, assassin murderer, who he unwittingly takes on, who's Batman's actual son that he doesn't know exists for the first eight to 10 years of his life, and he brings into his life and this is a story. It's a very strange sort of father son story about the two of them. And it's based on Grant Morrison's run on the Batman. There's a couple of comic book writers that have been exceptionally influential on our stuff and Grant Morrison and Tom King are probably the two primary ones.”
There’s still no writer attached to the project, and that’s not going to happen until after the writer’s strike wraps up. This movie will also mark the first live-action film appearance of Robin since Chris O’Donnell played the character in the 1997 film Batman and Robin. It’s going to be really interesting to see who ends up being cast in this movie.
