The Hunt for the Next James Bond Has Officially Begun as GAME OF THRONES Casting Director Leads the Search
The next era of James Bond is finally moving forward, and after years of speculation, the search for the new 007 is officially moving forward.
Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that auditions have already been taking place over the last several weeks as the studio begins looking for the actor who will step into the tuxedo after Daniel Craig wrapped up his run with No Time to Die back in 2021.
In a statement shared with Variety, the studio said: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Leading the casting search is Nina Gold, one of the most respected casting directors working today. She helped cast Game of Thrones, The Crown, and Andor, and she was also responsible for casting Daisy Ridley as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Gold was even nominated for an Oscar in the newly introduced Best Casting category for Hamnet, so Amazon MGM clearly brought in someone with serious instincts for discovering talent.
The pressure surrounding this Bond casting is massive. Craig completely reshaped the character during his run, giving audiences a tougher, more emotionally grounded version of 007 across five films.
Whoever lands this role next won’t just be inheriting a famous franchise, they’ll be carrying one of cinema’s most iconic characters into a new generation.
Thankfully, it sounds like the studio understands exactly how important this decision is. Amazon MGM Studios executive Courtenay Valenti previously addressed the franchise during CinemaCon earlier this year, saying:
“Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
There’s also no shortage of talent involved creatively. Dune director Denis Villeneuve is set to helm the next Bond film, which immediately raises expectations for what this movie could become visually and tonally. Pairing Villeneuve’s filmmaking style with Bond feels like a pretty awesome match.
Meanwhile, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay, and he’s already talked about wanting to honor the classic Bond formula while still pushing it forward.
Knight previously said: “I’m hoping that being a Bond fan for so many years, that will sort of be imbued into me and I’ll be able to produce something that’s the same but different and better and stronger and bolder.”
It’ll be really interesting to see who eventually lands the role.
