The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Franchise Won't End with DEAD RECKONING Films; There Are "Ideas for What Comes Next"
There have been reports that the upcoming two-part Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning films will bring an end to the franchise. It was reported that the two films will be a “sendoff” for Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt. Well, it turns out that’s not actually the case.
Director Christopher McQuarrie, recently told Fandango that it is “not the end” for the action franchise! He also went on to say that they “already have ideas for what comes next.” So, that’s exciting! I’m happy to hear to this franchise is not coming to an end and that we are going to get see more adventures with Cruise’s Ethan Hunt.
The filmmaker went on to address the franchise competing with other popular action icons during an interview with Total Film, saying: "We don't see ourselves in competition with Bond or John Wick. We love those movies, and we admire those filmmakers, and we want to see those guys win. All we're really doing is competing with ourselves."
He went on to explain: "And coming away from Top Gun, we looked at that movie, and said, 'We're going to bury those guys. We're going to crush Top Gun.' That's how we look at it. Our only rivals are ourselves.”
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, “Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
The movie also stars Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny along with newcomers Shea Whigham (Joker), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Avengers: Infinity War) and Esai Morales (La Bamba, Titans), Charles Parnell, Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes (Saw). Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds, Albert Nobbs), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), and Holt McCallany (Mindhunter, Nightmare Alley).
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Part Two will be released on July 12th, 2023, and June 28th, 2024.
