The Release Date for John Krasinski's A QUIET PLACE Sequel Gets Moved Up Two Months
If you’re looking forward to seeing the sequel to A Quiet Place, you’ll be happy to learn that Paramount Pictures has moved up the release date two whole months. The movie was originally supposed to be released on May 15th, 2020, now it is being released on March 20th.
John Krasinski is returning to direct the film and Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe will be back to reprise their roles. They will also be joined by Cillian Murphy.
When previously talking about the new film, the director explained that this next film in the franchise “doesn’t feel like a sequel” and that it’s more like a ”second book in a series of books”.
He also said that one of the things he’s most excited about is offering a whole new perspective on this world that has been created with fresh new characters:
"The idea for it is pretty simple. I’m writing now—I don’t have it fleshed out—but the thought that occurred to me, that really excited me about it, was that most sequels are about the return of a hero or a villain. You take this character that people loved once and you bring them back, and you have to create a new world around them. We have the exact opposite setup. We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it. The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it’s so much fun to explore. There are so many different things to see now. Everyone else in the world is experiencing this, so I’m curious to see what that looks like from another perspective."
I loved the first film, but I initially wasn’t very happy to see it was getting a sequel. I just don’t want to see this great concept beat into the ground to the point where fans of the original loath it. For example, I loved the first Saw movie, then with every sequel that was made I hated the franchise more and more.
I hope that the A Quiet Place franchise avoids that and that Krasinski and the creative team behind the film can keep pumping out quality stories, but only time will tell.
