The Russo Brothers Reportedly Set to Oversee Marvel's X-MEN Reboot and More Post-AVENGERS: SECRET WARS

A new rumor suggests that Joe and Anthony Russo’s involvement with Marvel Studios will extend well beyond Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as they may take on the mission of shaping the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the highly-anticipated X-Men reboot.

Since the massive success of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has faced some challenges in regaining its stride. The departure of key actors, a shift toward developing TV shows, and the complexities of trying to make the Multiverse Saga work, have left Kevin Feige struggling to keep everything on track with high quality starytelling

The removal of writers Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron from the upcoming Avengers films marked a course correction for the franchise. And with the Russo Brothers officially returning to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, fans are hoping that they will deliver some epic films.

Now, according to a report from industry insider Daniel Richtman, the Russos' time at Marvel Studios may go far beyond the Multiverse Saga.

Richtman claims that the Russo Brothers have already signed a deal to “oversee additional projects” after their work on Secret Wars wraps. One major project reportedly under their guiance will be the MCU’s X-Men reboot.

While it’s unclear if the brothers will step into the director’s chair for the X-Men’s first MCU outing, their track record with ensemble superhero films (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame) makes them ideal candidates to help shepherd mutants into Marvel’s larger universe.

Fans have been wondering how the X-Men and other mutants will be establish in the MCU. The X-Men’s arrival has been teased with Feige himself saying:

“I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”

Beyond the X-Men’s introduction, there’s been talk and speculation about Marvel’s next big crossover event are already circulating. According to rumors circulating, the Mutant Saga could culminate in an Avengers vs. X-Men film, potentially helmed by the Russo Brothers.

While these are just rumors, the idea of the Russos spearheading the X-Men’s MCU debut and possibly shaping Marvel’s next saga is interesting. What do you think about Russo’s sticking around Marvel after the next two Avengers movies.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive in May 2027.
