The STAR WARS: LANDO Series Moving Forward with Donald Glover Attached to Write and Star

It’s being reported by a couple of different outlets that Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Lando series is moving forward with Donald Glover set to write and star in the series.

The news was first reported by Above the Line, then it was confirmed by Gizmodo, who said Donald Glover will write the show with his brother, Stephen Glover. It makes complete sense that he would want to have a heavy creative hand in developing the series.

Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien was originally working on the show but is now said to be off the project. He recently offered an update on the series saying:

"I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show. It feels like everybody loves it, and, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don't know, I have no idea what's going on with it."

Well, now we know what’s going on with it. Glover wanted to tell a story that he knows he would be happy with, so he’s just going to do it himself and his brother, who he obviously trusts.

Glover said in the past that he doesn’t want to waste his time on a project that he’s not fully invested in, but said Lando is definitely a character he’d like to play again: “People kind of realized that their time was valuable. You only get so much. So I am not interested in doing anything that’s just going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with.”

Glover previously shared his vision for a Lando project, describing it as Frasier in space: “It would be cool to see, like, Frasier in Space. Like, a high-end guy in space. All of these characters are very specific and they have very specific points of view, so it’s always going to be fun to see them traveling around to a planet that is the opposite of what they’re used to … And all of that seems like it would be fun to write, for sure.”

So, I guess we should be mentally preparing ourselves for Frasier in space!
