This MADAME WEB Meme Article Was Written in the Amazon with My Mom When She Was Researching Spiders Right Before She Died
Less than 24 hours after Sony released the trailer for it’s upcoming Marvel movie Madame Web, one of the many bad and clunky lines of dialogue in the trailer went super viral, and everyone is having some fun with it!
That line of dialogue is delivered by Dakota Johnson's Cassandra Webb, and when talking about the villain of the story, Ezekiel Sims, she said:
"He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died."
That line of dialogue continues to be hilariously mocked by fans. I’m sure it’s not the kind of viral marketing that Sony Pictures was hoping for, but here we are and word is spreading how bad the movie looks. Not a good sign for this movie with superhero movie fatigue in full swing.
Anyway, I’ve collected a bunch of posts on X giving you and amusing idea of what is going one with the meme.
The synopsis for the film reads: “In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures… if they can all survive a deadly present.”
Madame Web also stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), along with Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Adam Scott (Severance).
Madame Web is being directed by S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) from a screenplay written by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Madame Web was created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. in 1980. Madame Web is a blind psychic who has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man due to her ties to “The Great Web,” a multiversal construct that ties all “Spider” characters together across the multiverse.
The movie will be released in theaters on February 14th.
