Marvel Fans Can Expect the MADAME WEB Movie to Offer a Fresh Origin Story

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the story for Sony Pictures’ upcoming Marvel film Madame Web or how it will be handled. What we do know is that Dakota Johnson takes on the lead role of Cassandra Webb, a paralyzed clairvoyant whose abilities allow her to see into the "spider world."

Now producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is offering up a little bit of new insight regarding the story and confirmed that it will be a fresh origin story centered around the character. In an interview with CW he said:

"It's really the story of Madame Web. So, in that respect, if you're a Spider-Man fan, you're gonna love the character because you know it from the comic books, which she doesn't really have that big a character in the comic books, we're doing the origin story of Madame Web. And so you meet her before she's actually the person that you know in the comic book and you come to understand how she becomes that person. So, I think that'll be a really fresh new terrain for the fans."

I really do hope that handle this story in a really cool way. This is a very interesting character and it would be a shame if they messed it up.

The movie also stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), and she is playing Julia Carpenter, aka the second Spider-Woman in the movie. When previously hyping up the film, she teased a powerhouse of of badass female characters, and there’s nothing wrong with that:

"I couldn't be more excited. I can't wait to be able to talk about it. I can't wait to be able to be next to the girls that I filmed with – Dakota and Isabela, and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I'm really excited that it's just gonna be a powerhouse of badass females for the world to see."

The supporting cast for the film includes Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Zosia Mamet, and Adam Scott.

Sweeney went on to talk about superhero movies and how much her family loved taking her to see them when she was growing up. She said: "Superheroes have been my entire life! Those [films] are all my parents ever wanted to go see. I think I've seen The Avengers probably 20, 30-plus times. My family, they love [them]... I could not have made them happier choosing to do that project [Madame Web]."

In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly blind woman named Cassandra Webb, who is “suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”

Madame Web is currently scheduled to release in the US on February 16, 2024. Do you think this is going to be a good movie!?
