Tim Burton on His "Back to the Basics" Approach of Making BEETLEJUICE 2; It's Like "Going Back to Why I Liked Making Movies"
Tim Burton is a majorly beloved filmmaker who has brought us a ton of fun, dark, and wild stories over the years with great characters, storytelling, and soundtracks from his creative musical partner, Danny Elfman. The pair are reteaming to bring us the highly-anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice 2, and Burton has given a little update about how he’s approaching this film.
In a new interview with Independent, Burton said:
"Honestly, I don't really know, because I am really not that good at talking or speaking or trying to sell something, so to speak. Looking back, it's a very, very strange journey that I can't quite explain. That's why it is hard for me to watch the movies afterwards, because I still feel the emotional whatever of it. I don't get a release from that. But I do enjoy all the people I've worked with. On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it. I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies."
It sounds like he’s going with the formula that fans will be most happy with!
The movie stars Michael Keaton, who is returning to play the Ghost with the Most, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as her daughter, Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz, Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), and Monica Bellucci (Irreversible, Spectre, The Apartment) as Beetlejuice’s wife in the story. Willem Dafoe is also in the movie and plays a ghoulish law enforcement officer in the Neitherworld.
Beetlejuice 2 is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
