Tim Burton Wraps Production on BEETLEJUICE 2 and Shares Photo From the Set
Director Tim Burton has officially wrapped production on Beetlejuice 2 for Warner Bros. The filmmaker shared the news on social media with a photo of himself on the set. The photo features a familiar location from the first movie, which is the waiting room of The Neitherworld. The image also came with a note from Burton saying: “Just finished shooting Beetlejuice. Thank you to everyone involved.”
When the Hollywood strikes hit, production on the film was shut down, and it only had two days left. So, when Hollywood opened back up and the film went back into production, Burton only needed a couple of days to finish up the film.
The movie brings Michael Keaton back as the main character along with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. The movie also stars Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter, Astrid; Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s wife in the story; and Willem Dafoe plays a ghoulish law enforcement officer in the Neitherworld.
When previously talking about making the movie, Keaton said: "Beetlejuice is the most f*ckin' fun you can have working, It's so fun, it's so great. And you know what it is? We're doing it exactly like we did the first movie ... There's a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move."
The film’s cinematographer, Haris Zambarloukos, also offered some insight on the story saying that the movie will tell a story about family: "At its heart Beetlejuice [2] is a story about a family, and now it's 30 years later and what are the intricacies and the human condition in keeping a family together all that time set in the craziest world possible? That's why I choose projects. That human connection for me is always at the forefront."
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday and Smallville) wrote the script along with an earlier draft by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith are also producing. Danny Elfman is returning to compose the score.
Beetlejuice 2 is set to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
