Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Rumored To Have Signed Onto SPIDER-MAN 3
After it was announced that Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro in Spider-Man 3, a lot of fans wondered if we might see the other film versions of Spider-Man in the film as well. There’s a lot of discussion and speculation among fans that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are looking to blow open The Spider-Verse in the third film, especially now that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is confirmed to be a part of the story.
Well, now FandomWire is reporting that a source close to the production has confirmed to them that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have signed on to reprise their respective Spider-Man roles in the film appearing alongside Tom Holland’s version of the Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
This is just a rumor. None of this has been confirmed by Marvel. I have my doubts as I’m just not confident that Maguire and Garfield would sign up to play Spider-Man again. But, I never thought I’d see Michael Keaton play Batman again, but he has signed up to appear in The Flash, so I guess anything is possible!
The outlet is also reporting some details on the other villains that will be included in the story as well as some minor plot details.
They explain that there will be “many villains” in the film and they claim to confirm that Kraven the Hunter is among them. Kravan’s involvement in the story has been rumored in the past and it’s a character that a lot of fans would love to see brought to life.
It’s also reported that Green Goblin will return, but they don’t know if Willem Dafoe from the Sam Raimi film will reprise his role, or if this Spider-Verse timeline will explain that. They do say it’s possible this could be the version from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Scorpion could also be making his “first costumed appearance since his alter ego Mac Gargan appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming”. That character was played by actor Michael Mando.
As for Michael Keaton’s Vulture or Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, it’s unclear if they will be returning for Spider-Man 3.
A couple of other bits of information that were shared include the inclusion of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), which implies “epic galactic repercussions of the Spider-Verse being introduced.” This was teased at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home with Nick Fury in space with the Skrulls. Then, Oscorp will apparently finally make its first appearance in the MCU.
Again, none of this has been confirmed. This could just all be a made-up rumor from the source. FandomWire is hit or miss. I’ve seen a few things confirmed, but I’ve also seen a lot of things that have been garbage. So, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happen. This is a big one, so if they shit the bed on this, I’ll never trust them on anything again.
