Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Futures May Continue Beyond AVENGERS: SECRET WARS, According to New Rumor
Spider-Man fans may have even more to look forward to after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. While many have assumed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would wrap up their Marvel journeys with the next two Avengers movies, a new rumour suggests their stories could be far from over.
After the huge fan reaction to their return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's easy to understand why Marvel and Sony would want to keep those versions of Peter Parker around. Now, a new report claims there are already plans in place for both Spider-Men to swing back into action after Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, both legacy Spider-Men are expected to have a future beyond Secret Wars. The insider shared on X:
"Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Men's story will not end in Secret Wars, as there are already plans for them to return in two more projects."
As always with reports like this, it's best to approach it as a rumor until Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures officially confirms anything. Neither studio has announced any projects featuring Maguire or Garfield beyond Secret Wars, and there's currently no indication of what these two mystery appearances might actually be.
Still, the report is sure to get fans talking. When Maguire and Garfield stepped back into their iconic roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences absolutely loved seeing the three generations of Spider-Man share the screen together.
The film became a massive global hit, earning an incredible $1.9 billion at the box office, and fans immediately began campaigning for Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Garfield.
Neither project has gained any real momentum over the past several years, but speculation has never really gone away.
Current reports continue to suggest Maguire will have a significant role in Avengers: Doomsday before reuniting with Garfield and Tom Holland in Avengers: Secret Wars. If this latest rumor proves accurate, the question becomes where these Spider-Men could appear next.
There are plenty of possibilities. Sony could finally move forward with standalone films featuring either version of Peter Parker, or the characters could pop up in future Multiverse-related Marvel projects.
Recent reports have suggested the Multiverse won't disappear after Secret Wars, leaving the door open for even more cross-dimensional adventures.
From Sony's perspective, there's also a strong business case for bringing these characters back in larger roles. While appearances in Marvel Studios' Avengers films are exciting, those would likely generate only a relatively modest financial return for Sony compared to leading their own Spider-Man projects.
Considering the incredible success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, revisiting either Spider-Man franchise certainly isn't hard to imagine.
Of course, it's still wise to keep expectations in check. @MyTimeToShineH has landed several accurate Marvel scoops over the years, but the insider's record has also been inconsistent. On top of that, Marvel's plans frequently shift as projects continue through development.
Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are directing both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron also helping shape the story.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
If Maguire and Garfield really do have more Marvel appearances waiting after that, Spider-Man fans could have plenty more nostalgic web-slinging adventures ahead. Until Marvel makes it official, though, this one firmly belongs in the rumou category.
