Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Could Finally Get a New Suit in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
If Tobey Maguire really is swinging back into the MCU for the next Avengers movies, Marvel may may be changing up his wardrobe.
A new rumor claims Maguire’s Spider-Man could finally receive an upgraded costume for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, giving his iconic version of the Marvel hero a fresh look while keeping the classic Sam Raimi-era design fans know and love.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios has been developing a new Spider-Man suit specifically for Maguire. The costume apparently wasn’t ready when Maguire filmed a scene for Avengers: Doomsday, so the actor reportedly performed the sequence using motion capture instead.
Richtman explained: “Tobey filmed his Doomsday scene in mocap because they were working on a new suit for him but didn’t complete it in time. He’s expected to wear it either in reshoots or in Secret Wars. It’s not the Iron Spider suit – apparently, it’s just an upgraded version of his original suit.”
His original costume remains one of the most recognizable superhero suits ever put on the big screen, so completely reinventing it probably isn’t necessary. An updated version that keeps the raised webbing, familiar colors, and overall Raimi aesthetic while making a few modern adjustments could look pretty cool.
It’s also interesting that the rumored design apparently isn’t an Iron Spider suit. The MCU has given Tom Holland’s Spider-Man a number of technologically advanced costumes over the years, but putting Maguire into another heavily armored Stark-style suit would risk stripping away some of what makes his Spider-Man visually distinct.
If Marvel really is bringing multiple Spider-Men into Doomsday or Secret Wars, giving Maguire an evolution of his classic costume feels like a better way to go. It would acknowledge how much time has passed without making him look like an entirely different character.
Maguire most recently returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, appearing alongside Holland and Andrew Garfield in the multiverse crossover fans had been waiting years to see. For that movie, Maguire wore a suit closely modeled after the costume from his original Spider-Man trilogy.
His potential involvement in Avengers: Doomsday has been the subject of plenty of rumors, including reports suggesting his Spider-Man could have a substantial role in Marvel’s upcoming multiverse story.
However, Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed Maguire as part of the Doomsday cast, so the reported new suit and his involvement should still be treated as rumor for now.
Seeing Maguire suit up again as Spider-Man would be and awesome moment. Seeing him step onto the screen wearing a newly upgraded version of his classic Spider-Man costume could make the return even cooler.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
