Toho Will Not Rush a Sequel Out For GODZILLA MINUS ONE
After the massive success of Godzilla Minus One and audiences loving the film, fans have been very eager for any news regarding a sequel. While I’m sure that one day a sequel will get made, it’s not going to happen anytime soon as Toho is doing the smart thing and not rushing out a new movie.
GQ Japan did a feature issue on Godzilla Minus One, and in it, the film's team talked about the success of the film. During the interview, producer Minami Ichikawa talked about the future of Godzilla and said there are no plans to rush anything.
"I don't feel the need to rush the next live-action film. Good films are all about quality. We want great ideas, an excellent script, a talented director, and the right cast to work on it carefully.”
If only American studios would care enough about their films to do the same thing. There’s so much that Hollywood could learn from how Toho handled Godzilla Minus One. They won’t, though. They’ll continue to rush their big-budget tentpole films out with half-assed scripts that feel like they were written by A.I.
In the meantime, Legendary Pictures is going to release its Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie, which is going to be a big-budget Asylum-style movie compared to Godzilla Minus One.
The movie is set in Japan 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how — and with whom — will Japan stand up to it?”
