Tom Cruise Explains the Practical Reason Why They Shot the Most Dangerous Stunt of His Career on Day 1 of M:I - 7 Shoot
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One director Christopher McQuarrie recently revealed that his action-packed upcoming sequel started off with a bang, starting day one of the shoot with the most ambitious scene, and most dangerous stunt its star, Tom Cruise, had done to date. Cruise is known for his stuntwork, as he takes on everything himself, and is always looking to push the limits of his previous projects. This scene saw the actor riding a motorcycle off the edge of a cliff and then parachuting to safety while in free fall.
Now Cruise himself has spoken out about the choice to accomplish this scene first and foremost. He explained to Entertainment Tonight:
“Well we know either we will continue with the film or we’re not. Let’s know day one! Let us know day one what is going to happen: Do we all continue or is it a major rewrite? I was training and I was ready. You have to be razor sharp when you’re doing something like that. It was very important as we were prepping the film that it was actually the first thing. I don’t want to drop that and go shoot other things and have my mind somewhere else. Everyone was prepped. Let’s just get it done.”
It’s pretty practical to just get it over with so you don’t get bogged down with the scary thing looming over your head. Plus he had to know if he was going to survive the epic drop in order to know if he’d even be able to shoot the rest of the movie! Cruise must be a total adrenaline junkie. I can’t wait to see this scene and the rest of the film when it drops next month on July 12th.
