Tom Holland Calls SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY’s Practical Filming in Glasgow “Fresh” and “Exhilarating”
Tom Holland is back in action as Peter Parker, and this time around, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is leaning hard into old-school filmmaking. Instead of being confined to studio sets, Holland and the crew are out on real city streets, giving fans a peek at a more grounded and practical approach to Marvel’s next big Spidey adventure.
The actor recently spoke about his excitement while shooting on location in Scotland, where the production has taken over parts of Glasgow with massive action sequences. Holland told AFP (via Barron's):
"Yesterday, I was on top of a tank driving down the high street in Glasgow, in front of thousands of fans, and it was awesome. It was so incredible, it was exciting, and exhilarating, and it felt fresh."
This marks Holland’s first return to the role of Spider-Man since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. He explained how this new film feels different compared to his last outing as the web-slinger.
"I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages. Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations."
Filming began last month, and fans online have already been eating up behind the scenes photos that show off Spider-Man’s updated suit and even possible clues about the villain he’ll be facing.
The movie’s cast also includes Jon Bernthal as Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Sadie Sink in a mysterious role. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also back as MJ and Ned, continuing Peter’s close-knit circle.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
