Tom Holland Wants to Launch the MCU’s Next Spider-Man and Shares the “Spider-Puberty” Pitch he Made to Marvel

Tom Holland knows his time as Spider-Man won’t last forever, and while fans probably aren’t ready to picture anyone else under the mask, the actor is already thinking about what comes next for the character.

Holland is set to return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, marking his first solo outing as Spidey in nearly five years. While talking about the future of the franchise, the actor opened up about eventually passing the torch and how much it would mean to help introduce the next generation of Spider-Man heroes.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland told Empire. “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”

It’s a cool full-circle thought considering Holland’s Marvel journey started with Robert Downey Jr. helping launch his version of Peter Parker into the MCU. Holland first appeared in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 before leading Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside Downey’s Tony Stark the following year.

Since then, Holland’s Spider-Man has become one of the defining characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the massive multiverse hit Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Now, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the horizon, Holland apparently had a much bigger creative voice in shaping the film. The actor revealed he was invited into the writers room during development and regularly met with the producers to bounce around ideas for Peter Parker’s next chapter.

He explained that they would “meet once every two weeks to pitch ideas and discuss our ambitions and what we wanted to try and do.”

Holland talked about one of he early concepts for the movie, saying: “My pitch when I came to the table with it was called ‘Spider-Puberty’,” he says. “What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?”

Apparently the studio wasn’t sold on the title. He continued, “‘Spider-Puberty’ was my tagline pitch to the studio, which was immediately shot down. But they liked the kernel of the idea, and it grew into what we have in the movie now.”

“Spider-Puberty” sounds exactly like the kind of chaotic Peter Parker energy Holland has always brought to the role, so now it’s hard not to wonder what pieces of that idea actually survived into the final movie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Mark Rufallo.

The movie swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
