Trailer for APEX Sees Charlize Theron Face Off Against Taron Egerton in Brutal Wilderness Survival Thriller
Netflix has released a new trailer for Apex, and it looks like a relentless survival ride that throws Charlize Theron straight into a horrible nightmarish situation.
Set deep in the Australian wilderness, the film pits her against a cold, calculating hunter played by Taron Egerton, and the result is intense, physical, and seriously unforgiving. This looks like a great survival flick!
The story follows Theron as a woman dealing with grief who escapes to the remote Wandarra National Park, hoping to find some peace. That plan falls apart fast.
Along the way, she crosses paths with Egerton’s character at a gas station, who casually points her in the right direction. When she finally reaches her destination, he’s already there waiting. Things get unsettling when she realizes her gear has gone missing, only for him to admit he took it.
From there, the trailer kicks into survival mode. A message flashes across the screen: “Hunt or be hunted,” and that pretty much sets the tone for everything that follows.
Egerton gives Theron a small head start, timed to the length of a song, while he calmly prepares his weapons, including a crossbow. What comes next is a pulse-pounding chase through dense forest across raging rivers, into dark caves, and even down sheer cliff faces.
The film leans heavily into its raw setting. Apex was shot on location in New South Wales, making full use of the rugged terrain, including the Blue Mountains, which adds a grounded, visceral edge to the action.
The project is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for Everest, and written by Jeremy Robbins. Theron also serves as a producer under her Secret Menu banner.
There’s something especially gripping about watching these two actors like go head-to-head in a stripped-down, survival-driven story like this. No safety nets, no backup, just instinct and endurance.
Apex hits Netflix globally on April 24, and it looks like a movie worth checking out!
