Trailer for THE GARFIELD MOVIE Starring Chris Pratt as Garfield

Sony Pictures has shared a teaser trailer for the upcoming film The Garfield Movie, which stars Chris Pratt in the role of the lovable orange, lasagna-loving cat. I was a huge fan of the Garfield comic strips and animated specials when I was a kid. I especially enjoyed his sarcastic wit. Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t quite seem to capture the true spirit of the character or the stories and it sees the character involved with a “high-stakes heist.”

In the film, “Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”

The movie doesn’t really look or feel like tells a Garfield story. Yeah, it features the same characters and some of the character’s attributes, but this just looks like a typical Hollywood animated movie that doesn’t do anything special or unique.

The movie does have a fun voice cast, though, that includes Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Ving Rhames.

The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal (Cats Don't Dance, The Emperor's New Groove, and Chicken Little). The movie is based on the Garfield characters originally created by Jim Davis. It will be released in theaters on May 24th, 2024.
