Trevor Slattery Steps into the Spotlight Again as WONDER MAN's Marketing Leans into Meta Madness
Marvel Studios is cooking up something wonderfully strange with Wonder Man. The upcoming Disney+ series has already been teased as a self-aware spin on superhero culture and Hollywood itself, and now the marketing is leaning all the way into that tone.
A new promo has surfaced that features none other than Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery offering his services as an “acting coach to the stars,” and it is every bit as unhinged as you’d expect.
Fans have spotted ads in the wild promoting Trevor Slattery as an acting teacher. The phone number listed leads to a video message where the Iron Man 3 and Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings character cheerfully volunteers to share his theatrical wisdom.
It is a bizarre and clever choice for a series that’s already been positioned as Marvel’s most meta project since WandaVision.
While Simon Williams may have superpowers, this show finds him auditioning to play “Wonder Man” in a reboot of the fictional superhero franchise, giving the story room to poke fun at Hollywood reinventions, superhero fatigue, and the industry machine itself.
If Marvel is willing to roll out Trevor Slattery as part of its promotional strategy, it’s easy to imagine Simon ending up as one of his eccentric “students” once the series begins.
Lead star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II recently explained just how distinct this series will be, sharing: "We’re doing something that, tonally, feels much different than really any other Marvel show, or any other films. We’re doing something that’s fresh, and a bit tongue-in-cheek, a bit self-aware."
He added, "The show is self-aware, without looking directly into the camera. There’ll be commentary about superhero fatigue and things like that, but to me, it’s just dressing. That’s not really the aim of the show. The focus of the show is about an actor’s journey. It’s about a journey of friendship."
Wonder Man centers on Simon Williams, a struggling actor trying to make something happen in Hollywood. During a chance encounter with Trevor Slattery, he discovers that legendary filmmaker Von Kovak is rebooting the superhero movie “Wonder Man.”
With one actor at the beginning of his career and one whose glory days are well behind him, both men chase roles that could change their lives. The series uses their journey to pull back the curtain on the entertainment world in a funny and affectionate way.
Between the meta concept, the Hollywood satire, and now a delightfully chaotic Trevor Slattery acting-school promo, Wonder Man seems like it could be one of Marvel’s most refreshing swings in years. If this is the kind of playful energy the show carries into the story itself, fans are in for something cool and genuinely different.
Created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, the series is set to premiere on Disney+ on January 26, 2026.
