TRON 3 Adds Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lee to Cast
Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) and Greta Lee (Russian Doll) have joined Jared Leto and Evan Peters in Disney’s Tron: Ares, the third installment of Disney’s Tron franchise.
The movie is being directed Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Kon Tiki), and the movie is gearing up to start shooting in August in Vancouver.
Not much is known about the story, but we know it’s going to focus on the emergence of a sentient program that somehow crosses over into the human world. Leto will take on the role of Ares, which is the manifestation of the Tron program.
Lee is said to be playing a video game programmer and tech CEO in what is described as the leading role. There’s no word on who Turner-Smith is playing.
We recently learned that Tron creator Steven Lisberger is involved with the development of the film as a consultant, and he said: "The Tron team is hard at work. They are always hard at work. It's going to happen. My goal with these things in playing the Obi-Wan role is to say the one sentence that has an impact. I try to say something that is useful to them without getting into the weeds."
I just hope this ends up being a great Tron movie. I wish that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski was helming the movie, but he’s on to do bigger and better things. Disney messed up when they didn’t greenlight his Tron movie.
