Viggo Mortensen Is Now Rumored for THE BATMAN: PART II as Christopher Dent

There’s a new rumor making the rounds for The Batman: Part II, and if it pans out, it could be a seriously awesome piece of casting.

Word is that Viggo Mortensen is now being eyed for a key role in Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel, and fans are already imagining what he could bring to Gotham’s next chapter.

The report comes from Bill Ramsey over at Batman On Film, who dropped the tease that Mortensen has been offered a role, most likely Christopher Dent. While nothing is officially confirmed, it’s the kind of casting choice that feels right.

Ramsey shared his thoughts on the situation, saying: "Can we just cast this part already, for crissakes? Nearly all of the major roles in The Batman: Part II have been cast, with the exception of Christopher Dent. Mortensen’s rumored offer comes after Brad Pitt, Stellan Skarsgaard, and Daniel Craig passed on the role."

That’s a pretty ambitious shortlist of actors who were in the mix. But Mortensen stepping in? That’s a whole different level of gravitas. The guy has a presence that naturally elevates whatever project he joins, and seeing him operate in Reeves’ grounded, noir-style Gotham would be something special.

Ramsey added: "Quite frankly, adding Mortensen to any cast, in any movie, elevates the material at hand — I actually hope this rumor turns out to be true. While we’re at it, I’m hearing Mortensen has the lead role in David Cronenberg’s “Consumed,” that is, if the film is able to find financing, which might be an uphill battle."

As for The Batman: Part II, the film is gearing up to start production on May 29 in London. Robert Pattinson is back as Bruce Wayne, and he’s joined by Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Paul Dano, and Andy Serkis.

Right now, Christopher Dent remains the last major piece of the puzzle. If this rumor turns into reality, Reeves may have just found the perfect actor to bring that character into his version of Gotham. It’s easy to picture Mortensen fitting right into this dark, character-driven world.

Until we get official confirmation, this sits firmly in rumor territory, but it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
