Vin Diesel Says Dwayne Johnson "Needed to Come Back" to the FAST AND FURIOUS Franchise

It was actually a surprise to learn that Dwayne Johnson was returning to the Fast and Furious franchise after all the public drama that unfolded between him and Vin Diesel. Johnson previously made it pretty clear that he was done with the franchise saying: "I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me."

Then, all of a sudden, the actor showed up as Luke Hobbes in the post-credits scene of Fast X, and now he’s getting another spinoff film that will will bridge the gap between the events of Fast X and the sequel.

Before that happened, Johnson did say the two sorted out their differences and said: "Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we've been like brothers for years. You just think about the future, you just think about plans that are much bigger than ourselves. Those bigger plans are the North Star."

At one point Diesel publicly said that Johnson needed to fulfill his destiny and return for Fast X. He said: “My little brother Dwayne... the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don't send well wishes... but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love... but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can't be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny."

Diesel’s response to that was: "I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. Vin's recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn't like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker's death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding."

Well, after all that drama they made things work, and now Diesel is once again saying that Johnson needed to come back to the franchise. In a featurette that will be included with the Blu-ray Diesel addresses just how necessary The Rock's Luke Hobbs was to finishing the story of The Fast Saga, saying:

"It was no easy task, because so much has been created in this universe, To tie up all these storylines, this character needed to come back into the mythology."

Well, let’s hope that whatever they end up doing with the character in the next couple of films takes advantage of the opportunity and does something awesome with it. The spinoff movie is being written by one of the original franchise writers Chris Morgan, so that’s a good sign.

Are you excited about Johnson coming back to the franchise!? Do you think his involvement will make the end of the franchise better than the past couple of films?
