Vin Diesel Teases That FAST X Might Be The First Part of a Trilogy
Since Fast X was announced it has been marketed as the first movie of a two-part story that would close out the franchise. So, after Fast X, we would get one more movie. Well, it looks like the big finale might get stretched out over three films instead of two!
During an interview at the premiere of Fast X during a lives tream, Vin Diesel was asked about the future of the franchise and where Dom Toretto would go after the franchise ends. The actor then teased:
"I can say this, going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter. And, after the studio saw this, Part 1, they said, 'Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?' So, umm..."
Michelle Rodriguez echoed those comments saying: "It's three acts in any story.” So, it looks like there’s a chance that we fans will be getting a full trilogy that will close out the story.
After making these comments during the live stream, the two actors quickly took off joking about the mess they may have made with this reveal. The studio has yet to make an official announcement, but if they weren’t messing with fans, it sounds like we might actually be getting a full trilogy to close out the franchise.
The next film is currently in development with Christina Hodson (The Flash) and Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) writing the script.
Fast X was directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) and written by Justin Lin (F9) and Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans). Fast X stars returning cast members, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Staham, John Cena and Scott Eastwood, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
The film also features new cast members including Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency; Alan Ritchson (Reacher) as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn’t hold the same fondness for Dom’s crew as his predecessor, Mr. Nobody; Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom’s past; and Rita Moreno as Dom and Mia’s Abuelita Toretto. Then there’s Jason Momoa, who plays the ridiculous over-the-top villain.
Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began.
Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.
In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.
Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
Fast X will be released on May 19th, 2023.
