Vincent D’Onofrio Wants Kingpin vs Spider-Man Showdown but Says Studios Need to Get Their "Sh*t Together"

Marvel fans have been hoping to one day see Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin come face to face with Spider-Man in the MCU. It’s one of those matchups that should’ve already happened. Now, Vincent D’Onofrio, is openly talking about it, and he wants it just as badly as we do. The problem is, the road to making that happen isn’t exactly easy.

It all started with a fun exchange online when a fan pushed for Kingpin to face off against Spidey. D’Onofrio leaned into the idea with a playful jab at the wall-crawler, referring to him as “that insect.” Fans jumped on it instantly, and one replied, “Need the matchup asap.”

D’Onofrio responded to the response, saying: “If Sony and Marvel ever get their sh*t together maybe. It's a complicated rights issue. Hope so.”

Even though both characters exist within the broader Marvel ecosystem, the split between Marvel Studios and Sony still creates barriers that make crossovers like this harder than they should be.

It gets even more frustrating when you realize how limited Kingpin currently is in terms of where he can show up. D’Onofrio previously explained:

"Right now, I’m only usable for television series. Different kinds of series, whatever it is, but not even a one-off Fisk movie or anything like that, it’s all caught up in rights and stuff. I don’t know when that would work out, or if it ever would work out at all, actually."

So while fans are out here imagining Kingpin trading blows with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on the big screen, the reality is that Fisk is still largely confined to the TV side of Marvel storytelling.

That said, the hype isn’t slowing down. The recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer stirred up a lot of speculation, especially with the reveal of the Punisher. Some fans even wondered if Charlie Cox’s Daredevil might be hiding somewhere in the footage, though Cox has denied it. Still, Marvel has a habit of keeping secrets, so who knows.

For now, Kingpin’s next move is locked in on the small screen. He’ll be back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, once again clashing with Daredevil. Don’t expect Frank Castle to join that fight though, as the Punisher is heading into his own standalone TV project.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 hits Disney+ on March 24, and while it won’t deliver that Spider-Man crossover just yet, it’ll keep Fisk front and center where he thrives.

If Sony and Marvel ever do figure it out, Kingpin vs Spider-Man could be one of the coolest street-level clashes the MCU has ever pulled off.
