Walton Goggins Joins Amber Midthunder in James Cameron-Produced Action Thriller PAINTER

Walton Goggins and Amber Midthunder are teaming up for an intense new action movie titled Painter, which has just been picked up by 20th Century Studios.

The project comes from Derek Kolstad, the creative mind behind John Wick, and it’s already shaping up to be something special with James Cameron stepping in as executive producer.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Garrett Warren, a veteran stunt coordinator who’s worked alongside Cameron on the Avatar movies, as well as action hits like Logan and the recent Road House reboot.

Painter follows a young woman trained from childhood to survive and fight. When her father is kidnapped, she must unleash every skill she’s learned to bring him home. Midthunder, who impressed audiences in Prey, plays the daughter, while Goggins takes on the role of the father.

The movie first made waves last year at the American Film Market when FilmNation introduced it as part of their sales lineup. Its mix of gritty action and emotional stakes quickly drew attention, eventually catching the eye of James Cameron, who helped guide it to 20th Century Studios.

Originally, Alan Ritchson (Reacher) was set to star opposite Midthunder, but he had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Midthunder recently shared the screen with Jack Quaid in Paramount’s action flick Novocaine and starred in A24’s thriller Opus alongside Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich. Next, she’s taking on a major role in Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie.

As for Goggins, he’s riding a major career high. His performance in season three of HBO’s The White Lotus earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

He also wrapped up the final season of The Righteous Gemstones and starred in The Uninvited, directed by his wife Nadia Conners, which premiered at SXSW. And fans won’t have to wait long to see him again as he’s returning as The Ghoul in the highly anticipated second season of Amazon’s hit series Fallout, premiering December 17.
