Warner Bros. Is Reportedly Looking at Daisy Ridley to Star in DC's BATGIRL
With Daisy Ridley’s run on Star Wars complete, she is open to all kinds of different film projects. She could even take on a new franchise if she wanted to at this point.
Well, it looks like she might get that chance with DC. According to a report from We Got This Covered, Warner Bros. is looking at casting Daisy Ridley and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) to star in Batgirl. Ridley is said to be their top choice at the moment.
Nothing is confirmed. This is just a rumor, and we don’t even know if the studio has been meeting with actresses yet. If Ridley or Langford are really up for the role, I’d actually be fine if either one of them were cast. It was previously rumored that the studio was looking at Kristen Stewart for the role. Jane Levy (Evil Dead) also wants in on the action. Levy is actually my favorite choice out of all of the actresses who have been named so far.
DC’s Batgirl movie is being written by Christina Hodson, the same writer who brought us Bumblebee and the upcoming Birds of Prey. When previously talking about bringing Batgirl to the big screen, she said:
"I’m in the middle of falling in love with her. I always feel differently at the beginning, middle, and end. Charlie feels like an old friend now, because that was a while ago and because she is so personally inspired. Harley just feels like my crazy alter ego. When I’m feeling nuts, that’s what Harley is. And Batgirl…honestly it’s funny, there’s a little piece of me in every character I write. They start with me, and then they take on a life of their own."
She went on to explain that she hopes to bring something fresh and new to the character:
"She’s been through so many iterations. There’s certain characteristics of hers that are always there that I’m excited to develop further. Whenever I’m writing a character who’s based on someone who’s existed in a previous form, whether it’s comics or a movie or anything, I always hope to bring something new to them and bring them to life in their own way, even if they fairly iconic like Harley Quinn or Batgirl. I think fans want the original, to be honest, but they also want to see something they haven’t seen before."
Who would you like to see take on the role of Batgirl in the upcoming movie?
