We Have a Release Date For JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3!
John Wick: Chapter 3 officially has a release date. Lionsgate announced that the third installment of the John Wick franchise will arrive in theaters on May 17, 2019. It is the first time a John Wick movie will be released during the summer.
No story details have been released about the Keanu Reeves shooter at this point, but we know it will conclude the trilogy. Director Chad Stahelski also previously teased:
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”
The R-rated action series stars Reeves as a hitman who is almost too good at killing people, that comes out of retirement to get revenge on gangsters who took everything he loved away. Chapter 2 finds Wick fighting off bounty hunters seeking the large prize placed on his head.
John Wick was directed by David Leitch and Stahelski and first debuted in October 2014 grossing $88 million worldwide. Then John Wick: Chapter 2, helmed by Stahelski, made $171 million worldwide upon its release in February of this year.
