Wes Anderson's ASTEROID CITY Gets a Fun Behind-The-Scenes Video Focusing on The Desert City
Wes Anderson’s next film Asteroid City hits theaters this week and as we wait to watch this movie, I’ve got a fun behind-the-scenes video to share with you that shows off the desert set that was built for the film.
This was actually a huge set that was built in the middle of the desert, and the small community was built to have a Population 87, in the 1950s. Most of the film takes place in this small town, which is actually a really cool-looking set! The set was built in Spain in 2021, in the middle of the pandemic and as you might expect, it was a "bubble" of cast and crew members and Anderson talks about that experience in this promo video.
The story is set in a fictional American desert town in 1955. In the story, “the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.”
That world-changing event is the arrival of an alien. Yes, this is Wes Anderson’s sci-fi film and the ensemble cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, and Tom Hanks, with Sophia Lillis, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Fisher Stevens, Rita Wilson, Jarvis Cocker, and Jeff Goldblum. I’m surprised Bill Murray isn’t in it!
Asteroid City will be released in theaters on June 17th, 2023.
