Wilson Bethel Breaks Down Bullseye’s Shocking Season 2 Turn in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN and Confirms Season 3 Return
The finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 didn’t just shake up Hell’s Kitchen, it quietly reset one of the MCU’s most dangerous wild cards. Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, better known as Bullseye, closed out the season in a place that opens a ton of doors, and Wilson Bethel is shedding some light on what that means going forward.
If you were expecting a full redemption arc, think again. Dex may have flirted with the idea of balancing his past with “one good deed,” but the finale makes it clear that he isn’t suddenly turning into a hero.
After stepping in to save Governor McCaffrey at Daredevil’s request, Dex seems to view the scales as even. From there, it’s back to what he does best, just with a new kind of support system behind him.
Things take a sharp turn when his latest attempt to take out Wilson Fisk goes sideways, with Buck Cashman catching the bullet instead. That misfire pushes Bullseye into alignment with Mr. Charles, which also ties him to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and whatever shadowy operation she’s running.
Bethel explained where that leaves the character, saying, “It’s a really exciting point of departure for the next stage of things because where he ends up is essentially with a clean slate, he doesn’t owe anything to anyone, and he is a phenomenally talented killer who is now working for the CIA or some kind of Black Ops situation, which frees him up in all kinds of ways.”
That “clean slate” angle is the big takeaway here. Dex isn’t tied down by Fisk or anyone else anymore, and that independence could make him even more dangerous.
Bethel leaned into that idea, adding, “In some ways, it feels like it potentially is setting him up to be a version of Bullseye that I think a lot of people will recognize from the comics, who’s just a guy who is a killer for hire, who is not encumbered by the Fisks or anyone else really.
“He’s his own master, and he’s working for the CIA, but at the end of the day, a contract killer is a contract killer, and I don’t know how beholden he is to anyone.”
That description lines up with the classic comic book version of Bullseye, a freelance assassin whose loyalty only goes as far as the next job. It also fuels speculation that he could cross paths with Valentina’s growing roster, possibly even landing on a Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers-style team.
Whatever the plan is, we won’t have to wait long to see more of Dex. Bethel confirmed he’s already set to return, saying, “I can confirm that I’m in Season 3. So, that’s great.
“I would obviously love to be used in some additional Marvel projects down the road, or my own Marvel project; that’s a dream. I have my fingers crossed for that, and the fan response to the character, hopefully, will warrant that.”
Season 2 of the series was pretty damn incredible, and I really liked how Bullseye’s story arc played out. It’ll be interesting to see how they continue that with Season 3.
Adding a free-agent Bullseye into that mix heading into Season 3 seems like a recipe for chaos.
