WONDER WOMAN 3 Will Have a Contemporary Setting, Says Patty Jenkins

Yesterday we learned that Patty Jenkins thinks Wonder Woman 1984 has an answer to the beloved “No Man’s Land” scene. Last week, she revealed that she knows how she wants Wonder Woman’s arc to end in Wonder Woman 3. And now she is giving us one tiny little detail of that vision: she thinks the third act of Diana Prince’s story is contemporary. She told The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm not set, but I'm not dying to do another period piece."

She then continued, "I'm not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It's definitely a contemporary story. That's all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven't totally nailed down."

Honestly, this makes sense to me. Moving her “origin” story from WWII to WWI was an interesting choice, and served the story they were telling very well, but the 70ish year jump to 1984 for the sequel means there is a lot less history to play with between then and the modern-day. It’s also not entirely clear what “contemporary“ means in this context. Is it post Justice League, or does it lead up to her involvement in Batman v Superman? I have really really enjoyed the Gal Gadot iteration of Wonder Woman, and I really really want this arc to do her justice. I think Jenkins has the same goal, and I can’t wait to see how she achieves it.
