X-MEN '97 Writer Beau DeMayo Teases Mr. Sinister's Foolproof Plan to Destroy the X-Men
While we continue to wait for some first-look footage for the highly-anticipated X-Men ‘97 animated series, head writer Beau DeMayo confirmed the main villain in the story is Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister, and teased his dastardly plan to take down the X-Men once and for all.
During the X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years Live Virtual Event Nathaniel DeMayo, excitedly said:
“A very, very, very, very favorite character of mine and many others, Mr. Sinister, will rear his ugly head from the past with a pretty foolproof plan to destroy the X-Men once and for all.”
The story for the revival picks up where the original X-Men cartoon series left off, and it starts with Magneto and the X-Men after Professor X left for Shi'ar space in the original show's series finale.
The recently released synopsis revealed that Sinister would play a big role in the story and it reads: "Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all."
The series also brings back the original voice cast, which includes Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Chris Potter (Gambit), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler).
It was previously confirmed some other characters that will show up including Bishop, Cable, Forge, Morph, Nightcrawler, Sunspot, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and Callisto. Some of the other voice cast members include Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.
When previously talking about the series, Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater explained that this is a show that fans should be excited for. The two worked together on Moon Knight, and he said: "Beau DeMayo, who's doing X-Men '97, is one of the best writers I have ever worked with in my life. He's an absolute genius. And the other day, we had our writers' dinner, and he was telling me some of the things they have planned for X-Men '97. I can't say a single thing, except you guys have no idea how excited you should be for that show."
He went on to say that the series is "going to be f**king awesome. That's all I can say about it. But the stuff he was saying — every episode — it was blowing my mind of what he was sort of pitching. So you guys have no idea how excited you should be for that show."
Jake Castorena is the supervising director and Charley Feldman is the supervising producer. X-Men '97 will debut on Disney+ in fall 2023.
