GREEN LANTERN Reboot May Feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart

The last Green Lantern movie that Warner Bros. made ended up being a major disappointment for the fans and studio. That’s a shame, because it could have been so good, especially with Ryan Reynolds playing Hal Jordan. Unfortunately, the script and story for the film sucked ass.

As you know, the studio is looking to reboot the franchise with a new movie coming in 2020. Of course, we’ll probably see the character before that in the Justice League movies, the first of which comes out in 2017. When the studio does get around to that solo movie though, it seems that they might be taking it in a very interesting direction.

The following information comes from Collider, who has an inside source. The movie is in the very early stages of development, so anything you hear now could easily change by the time the movie comes out.

According to the report, the story they are looking to tell will focus on more than one human Green Lantern. They are saying that Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and maybe even Guy Gardner could all be lead characters in the reboot.

The site goes on to reveal that “the franchise will continue to focus on different Green Lanterns and never on just one, so really the Green Lantern movies look like they’ll be more about the Green Lantern Corps, which is an interesting approach.”

I’m very curious to see how they handle this subject matter. This direction they are thinking of taking this franchise could be freakin’ awesome, or it could utterly fail. Apparently there is a real possibility that the studio will make an official announcement regarding this news at San Diego Comic-Con next month.

The report goes on to say that they’ve heard speculation that “the way Justice League will go down is that Part One will feature our heroes dealing with an Earth-based threat, and then at the end, Green Lantern will fly in and alert them to an intergalactic menace (most likely Darkseid) for Part Two.”

All of this news was backed up in a separate report from Latino-Review, who adds that Chris Pine is closing in on a deal to play Hal Jordan, which is something that was previously rumored. It was also rumored that he was cast as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. Maybe that bit of intel wasn't true, or maybe it was just something that leaked to throw everyone off the scent of Green Lantern.

I could see something like that happening, but again, we’ve got a very long way to go before we find out what exactly WB is planning for Green Lantern. It makes for a great geek discussion though! What do you think of the possibility that the studio is going to focus on multiple Green Lantern characters instead of just one? Do you think it’s a good idea, or do you think it will complicate things even more?
