James Wan Is Producing a "Darker Reimagining" of THE MUNSTERS Titled 1313

The Munsters is getting another reboot, but this time it’s coming from producer James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring).

The project is titled 1313, and it is described as “a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a darker reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters.”

Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Semetary: Bloodlines) will be the showrunner of the series. Ingrid Bisu of UCP is also a co-executive producer.

Over the years there have been a couple of attempts to reboot The Munsters. One came from NBC and Universal and it was written by Bryan Fuller.

That project was titled Mockingbird Lane, and directed by Bryan Singer and starred Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, and Charity Wakefield as cousin Marilyn. That pilot aired as a Halloween special in 2012.

Then in 2017, Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers were developing a series that followed members of the offbeat Munsters family determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.

The most recent reboot of The Munsters came from Rob Zombie, and that movie didn’t seem to go over well with fans.

While I’m curious to see what this new Munsters series ends up being, people just need to stop trying to reboot it. It’s obviously not working, and nothing will ever live up to what the original series gave us.

If you want to revisit the original series, The Munsters is currently streaming on Peacock.
