SNAKE EYES Star Henry Golding Teases "Grand, Grand Plans" For The G.I. JOE Film Franchise

We have no idea what in the hell is going on with the G.I. Joe franchise over at Paramount Pictures. After producers forced a ridiculous unnecessary crossover with Transformers: Rise of the Beast, I hoped nothing would ever come of it because that’s such a stupid direction to take the franchise when they still haven’t probably figured out how to handle it.

Now, Snake Eyes star Henry Golding has offered an update, and he seems pretty confident with the studios’ future plans, even though his Snake Eyes movie did not do very well at the box office. Golding says the the studio has “grand plans” for the franchise:

"I mean, Lorenzo di Bonaventura is a busy man and a phenomenal producer, and it's in safe hands. Whatever happens, I think it's going to be a combination of what has come and what is to come. I think Paramount have some grand, grand plans."

Well, I don’t know what fantasy world Golding is living in, but G.I. Joe is definitely not in “safe hands.” The franchise needs a whole new producer and creative team because Lorenzo di Bonaventura continues to prove that he’s not the right person for the job. I mean, he previously admitted that he didn’t even know what they were doing with the franchise.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura was asked about the future of the franchise, and he responded, saying, "The honest truth is I don't know. I know we are going to deliver on the promise we made." This is a promise that I hope they never follow through with, because whatever they do is going to be another disappointment.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. previously talked about the crossover, saying: "Yeah, it was figuring out a way to use the G.I. Joe technology because they're known for their tech. I was like, 'Maybe we don't have to go through the classic characters like Snake Eyes and Duke and all these other characters. Maybe there's a way we can use other characters that haven't been utilized as much.'“

He continued: “There's different series and editions and different factions of G.I. Joe as well. There's G.I. Joe: Renegades and different branches of it, too. So I started to play with that, and I pitched versions of it to the studio and the producers. I pitched a direction I wanted to go in and ways to branch out the universe in general. Transformers movies have scope and size, but we've been spending a lot of time here on Earth, so I just think there's more out there. Even in the graphic novels for Transformers, there's other planets and things like that, and I was like, 'We're just thinking too small.' So, if we're going to do movie number eight and nine and ten, maybe there's a way to make this all more expansive and branch out."

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but I’m not excited about the future of the franchise.
