I Hope TRANSFORMERS Producer Breaks His Promise That The G.I. JOE Crossover Movie Will Get Made
I still think that when G.I. Joe is introduced at the end of Transformers: Rise of Beasts, it is the dumbest and laziest way to bring these two franchises together. But, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, this is the direction they are sticking with and in a recent interview with CB, he promises the crossover will get made.
When asked when audiences can expect to see the movie, he said: "The honest truth is I don't know. I know we are going to deliver on the promise we made."
This is a promise that I hope they break because they need to scrap everything and rethink their entire strategy with these franchises. I know exactly what they need to do, but apparently these people in charge of running a major studio can’t figure it out and they keep making the wrong decisions.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura previously shared that they don’t ever really have a plan for this crossover, saying: "We don’t plan that far ahead. We react to what the audience is reacting to, so in a way we can please them, but also in a way it makes it feel fresh. We expect there’s going to be some allegiance and they’re going to go on some kind of mission together."
This is why these movies just keep getting worse and worse. It’s like they want to keep this superhero and comic book movie fatigue alive. The way these people run things is insane to me.
The producer also teased the closest thing they do have for a plan, saying: "Like every other Transformers movie, the ingredients of the movie is humans and robots get together to stop the villain. The Joes are going to be part of the ingredients now. We're not going into the Joe world, they're coming into our world. So, if you think about it that way, I think that's the closest thing to the plan that we have. We now have to figure out the plot we want to do, et cetera, but they will be an active participant, if you would, a few of the characters, in trying to stop the bad guy."
They should have just started from scratch on both franchises and made a few G.I. Joe films and a few Transformers films that all lead up to a crossover. But, right now they are just throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and hoping something sticks.
The whole thing just makes me sad because I know how insanely great and successful these franchises can really be.
