A BUMBLEBEE Sequel Is Now in Development

For those of you who were hoping to see a sequel to director Travis Knight’s Bumblebee, you’ll be happy to hear that the sequel is now in development!

The news comes from Deadline, who teases that it may revolve around both Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, which makes sense as the two characters were hanging out with each other at the end of the film. The addition of Optimus prime seems like a natural progression of the story.

Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura talked about the film, saying, “We had many objectives (including) to bring a new set of families into the series, and that succeeded; in the after markets that will continue to succeed in a big way. Part of our obligation was to bring people back who had left the franchise or never experienced it which worked well… We are finding our way. Our intention was we wanted to please the core fans but also bring a new audience.”

With Bumblebee hitting the $400 million mark in worldwide box office over the weekend, it makes sense that Paramount Pictures would want to get the sequel off the ground. This is in addition to another “big Transformers” movie being developed along with “an animated movie in the works” and other films that “may introduce new characters and bring others along.”

Both director Travis Knight and screenwriter Christina Hodson have ideas for where they would like to take the sequel, but we don’t know if they are going to return to the franchise. I hope that they bring back that team to capture that fantastic magic from the first film.
