A New X-FILES Series Is Being Developed by BLACK PANTHER Director Ryan Coogler
The X-Files creator Chris Carter has been talking about the possibility of continuing The X-Files franchise for a few years. It’s been five years since the revival wrapped up, and in regards to a continuation of the franchise, back in 2020 we learned an animated spinoff comedy series was in the works titled The X-Files: Albuquerque, which Carter is attached to produce for Fox.
That series is going to revolve around an “office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with.” It’s explained that these agents are basically the X-Files’ B-team. That project is being developed by Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko, as writers and executive producers.
We’ve now learned that there’s another X-Files project in the works. During a recent interview with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, Chris Carter talks about an entirely different series in the works that is being developed by director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther).
Carter shared: “I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
This is the first time that I’ve heard anything about this, and I’m intrigued by what the series could be! There aren’t any other details to share, but as a long-time fan of The X-Files, I can’t help but be curious to see what this project could end up being.
I know a lot of fans would be upset to see the series continue without Agents Mulder and Scully involved, but they can’t be a part of the franchise forever. I would love to see them return, but if there is an interesting and unique way to move the franchise forward without them, or in a limited capacity, I’d be open to it!
It’s pretty crazy, all these years later a lot of those conspiracy theories that were explored in the original X-Files series are now facts!
