Amber Heard Talks About the Pressure of AQUAMAN 2 as DC Films Continue to Flop

Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash, have all flopped at the box office. DC Studios is in a big funk at the moment, and fans aren’t expecting the upcoming films Blue Beetle or Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom to be any better. It seems like DC has lost the trust of the fans, and James Gunn and Peter Safran have got their work cut out for them to gain it back.

With what is currently going on with the DC movies, Amber Heard is feeling the pressure for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom as it is riding in on this losing streak of films. During a recent interview with Deadline, Heard compared Aquaman 2 to her latest film, In the Fire, saying:

"These are very different kinds of projects representing two very different ends of the spectrum in my industry. There's a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be. Then on the other end of the spectrum is a small indie film like In The Fire, a work of art and work of love, with nowhere near the same resources, and so there are compromises there. The best luck you can have as an actor is to be able to balance both. Aquaman, that franchise and the machinery behind it, I'm very honored, honored to be a part of that. And then there are these small passion projects like In The Fire, where I'm proud to have gotten to know the filmmaker and the cast, and we got dirty together, to breathe life into this story. There's something cool about that, and I think success is an actor who is able to have both those things."

When it comes to the Aquaman sequel, the initial reactions to the film have been bad, with several insiders saying that it’s an unwatchable film.

According to a previous report, the studio has been purposely avoiding answering questions about the movie because "test screenings for this film have not been good," while also claiming to hear "something that almost never happened in test screenings happened with this movie."

I believe that Wan has gone back in for multiple reshoots on the project since these reactions came out, so hopefully, he was able to fix it. Regardless, even though the first movie made over a billion dollars at the box office, I think this sequel is going to suffer the same fate as all the other recent DC movies.

In the film: “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”

The film will also see the return of Patrick Wilson as Orm, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Randall Park as Stephen Shin. Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbaek has also joined the cast in an unknown role, while Jani Zhao will play the new character Stingray, Indya Moore will play Karshon, and Vincent Regan will play Atlan.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is set to be released in theaters on December 20th.
