Another EVIL DEAD Movie in Development with Writer and Director Francis Galluppi
Sam Raimi is producing yet another Evil Dead movie, and Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) has been hired to write and direct the film.
The project is described only as an original story that Galluppi developed and brought to Raimi and his team. The project is set up at Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures with Robert Tapert set to produce.
Bruce Campbell isn’t mentioned in the report, but I imagine he’s a producer as well, since he is involved with all of the Evil Dead projects.
Raimi shared in a statement: “Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence. He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”
This is one of two Evil Dead projects currently in development. The other Evil Dead movie is being helmed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested). He previously shared his vision for the movie, and he’s looking to make something brutal.
The filmmaker explained: “I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested.”
He continued: “I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”
Campbell previously revealed the plan for the franchise was to release a new Evil Dead movie every two to three years. Sam Raimi even developed a Bible for the franchise for future filmmakers to use who want to play in the Evil Dead sandbox.
Campbell said: “We’re going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years. But, hey, we’ve seen with Star Wars — you don’t want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them.”
I’m excited about the future of the Evil Dead franchise! I’m excited to see what kind of stories these two new films are going to tell.
