Anya Taylor-Joy Only Has 30 Lines of Dialogue in FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
Imperator Furiosa will be a character of few words in director George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Despite the movie being 2.5 hours long, Anya Taylor-Joy only has 30 lines of dialogue, according to The Telegraph.
The story of the film takes place over the course of 15 years, and that’s a lot of time of silence. But, there’s a reason for the lack of dialogue. Miller explains that dialogue slows things down.
The filler explained: "The problem with dialogue is that it tends to slow things down, and film is a medium that’s often best enjoyed at high speed."
That’s especially true with the Mad Max movies! And we all know that even if there’s a lack of dialogue, the movie is going to be loud and explosive!
There’s one 15-minute action scene that took 200 stunt people 78 days to shoot, and it's been said to be a pivotal moment for Taylor-Joy's character.
Taylor-Joy offered some insight into the sequence and explained why it’s so important for the film and her character, saying: "George and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long.”
She added: "It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit.”
The actress continued: “It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. On the day we finished, everybody got a 'Stairway To Nowhere' wine!’”
In the film, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.
“Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
