AQUAMAN 2 Director James Wan Denies Reports of Behind the Scenes Drama
Last week, reports surfaced about the production of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and some of the drama that was rumored to have gone down. Some of the allegations included Jason Momoa showing up to the set drunk and Amber Heard almost being fired, but saved by Elon Musk. There are also reports of a toxic work environment and a ton of reshoots that were done for the film after poor test screenings.
Director James Wan was recently asked about these rumors in an interview with Empire, and he denies that these reports are true. He said:
"I've had to learn to be more Zen in dealing with all the noise around me, for sure. I'm a pretty private person. I don't get on social media and have fights, but it's difficult because this narrative has emerged that is not the reality. The noise is fun to write about, and it gets clicks, but people don't know the truth."
When talking about the reshoots of the film, Wan added:
"We probably did seven or eight days [of reshoots, which is nothing for a movie of this size. It was just spread out because it's so hard to get your actors back once you've finished the initial shoot."
Wan seems like he’s pretty chill about everything and is acting like all of these reports have been overblown. It seems maybe the truth of everything has been twisted as it spreads across the internet. At the same time, if there was anything going on behind the scenes, he’s not to confirm it! He wants people to go out and watch his movie, so he’s going to put a positive spin on everything.
As for a possible third Aquaman movie, Wan hasn't ruled it out:
"I haven't directed a third movie [in a series] before, so I'd be open to doing another [Aquaman] if I got the same freedom I've had on these first two. I'm not sure what direction [Gunn and Safran] are going in, though, so who knows? I've learned to never say never."
I mean, at this point, it really all depends on what James Gunn and Peter Safran want to do. Regardless of what the truth and lies are, it would be nice if the movie actually ended up being better than what people are expecting.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be in theaters on December 20.
