AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Set Photo Offers First Look at Magneto and Cyclops

Well, it’s happening. Worlds are colliding in Avengers: Doomsday, and now a photo has surfaced from the set giving fans their first peek at two legendary mutants who helped define an era of superhero cinema: Cyclops and Magneto, once again played once again by James Marsden and Ian McKellen.

The image (shared via @TeeCeeComics) doesn’t give much away plot-wise but it does capture a quiet moment between the two characters. Marsden is dressed casually, but he’s wering those signature ruby quartz sunglasses.

As for McKellen, he is partially suited up in Magneto’s regal attire, cape and all. They're mid-conversation in a very nondescript setting, but who cares! It’s Cyclops and Magneto together again!

A few weeks ago, Marvel dropped a massive cast list for Avengers: Doomsday, and fans have been dissecting every name ever since. Out of the 27 confirmed cast members, several names jumped out for longtime X-Men fans, especially those who grew up watching the Fox films.

That list also included Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Channing Tatum (Gambit).

As we know from The Marvels and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel isn’t just toying with the idea of a multiversal crossover, they’re fully leaning into it. These returning X-Men characters seem poised to play a key role in both Avengers: Doomsday and the eventual Secret Wars mega-event.

While we’re all thrilled to see Marsden and McKellen back, fans are still holding out hope for a few more familiar faces to appear.

Lots of fans are hoping the next round of casting announcements will includew Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Halle Berry’s Storm, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

Regardless, it’s pretty awesome to see these characters together again after all these years. I can’t wait to see what their place in the story will be.

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film and Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on May 7, 2027.
