Brendan Fraser's THE MUMMY Revival Brings Back Two More Fan-Favorite Characters Including One Who Died
As you know, The Mummy franchise is finally making its return. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially back, giving audiences the reunion they've wanted for decades, and now the cast just got even more exciting with the addition of two more familiar faces.
The original The Mummy and The Mummy Returns became some of the most entertaining action-adventure movies of their era, mixing horror, humor, and blockbuster spectacle into something audiences still revisit today.
While the franchise eventually expanded with a third movie and multiple Scorpion King spinoffs, it never quite captured the same magic. Now, thanks to Hollywood's love of legacy sequels and Fraser's well-earned career resurgence following his Oscar-winning comeback, the next chapter is finally becoming a reality.
The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo behind the recent Scream movies, and the latest casting news offers a pretty interesting clue about where this story may be headed.
According to Deadline, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O'Connor are officially returning as Ardeth Bay and Beni Gabor. Joining the returning cast is Numan Acar (Young Sherlock), who has signed on in an undisclosed role.
Fehr's return probably won't surprise longtime fans. Ardeth Bay was one of the franchise's most important characters, serving as both protector and guide throughout the first two films. Fehr has also been open over the years about wanting another shot at the role, so seeing him officially return feels like a natural fit.
The bigger surprise is O'Connor's return as Beni. Beni spent the first film betraying just about everyone he crossed paths with, constantly looking out for himself no matter the cost. His story appeared to end in spectacular fashion when he became trapped beneath Hamunaptra and was devoured by an army of flesh-eating scarab beetles.
Of course, if there's one franchise where death doesn't necessarily mean the end, it's The Mummy. Ancient curses, resurrection rituals, undead priests, and supernatural forces have always been at the center of these movies. Bringing Beni back might sound impossible at first, but in this world, it actually fits the mythology surprisingly well.
Alongside Fraser and Weisz, John Hannah is also returning as Jonathan Carnahan, Evy's endlessly lovable brother. The cast also includes Michael Johnston (Obsession), who many fans believe could be playing Rick and Evy's now-grown son, although that hasn't been confirmed.
With so many original cast members signing on, it certainly feels like the filmmakers are aiming to recapture the spirit that made the first two films such enduring favorites instead of simply revisiting the title.
Production also seems like it could be gearing up sooner rather than later. The Mummy 4 already has an October 15, 2027 release date after moving up from its original summer 2028 slot, which means cameras will likely need to start rolling in the near future.
