Charlie Cox Reveals His Son’s Heartbreaking Reaction to DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Ending: “The Color Drained From His Face”

Charlie Cox has spent more than a decade playing Marvel’s Daredevil, but it turns out one of his biggest fans isn't ready to see him hang up the horns. That fan happens to be his six-year-old son, who apparently took the news that Daredevil: Born Again is ending with Season 3 pretty hard.

With Marvel bringing the Disney+ series to a close in 2027, Cox is already thinking about what it means to say goodbye to Matt Murdock, a character who has been part of his life for 12 years. But explaining that goodbye to his little boy has proven to be even tougher.

Speaking to People, Cox opened up about the emotional reality of leaving the role behind: "I don't think I am prepared for it. It's been 12 years of my life.

“I think it's very likely that at the end of my career, whenever that is, this character will be the most important to me. I don't know if you can prepare yourself for that. I'm trying to prepare my son for it more than I'm preparing myself. He's devastated."

For Cox, playing Daredevil has been a huge part of his career, but for his son, it's something much simpler. His dad is a superhero, and that's about as cool as it gets when you're six years old.

Cox recalled the heartbreaking reaction he got when he broke the news: "He's six. So he's just coming on to the 'my dad’s a superhero' kind of stuff. When I told him, the color drained from his face. It didn't occur to me that he'd be so impacted by it, so it's very sweet."

That's pretty adorable and a little heartbreaking. Most kids have to pretend their dads are superheroes. Cox's son actually gets to watch his father fight crime in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it's understandable that he's not thrilled about that coming to an end.

As for why Daredevil: Born Again is wrapping up, Marvel's head of television, Brad Winderbaum, previously explained that the revival was always intended to last three seasons, matching the run of the original Netflix series.

However, he also suggested that audience numbers play an important role in deciding whether Marvel shows continue. He also addressed the fan campaign to keep Daredevil going:

"'Save Daredevil' is great but we also need 'hashtag Watch Daredevil'. The biggest leverage I have, and I say this all the time, is the actual viewership numbers. That's what people are looking for, that's where I get my power to be able to make something or not."

While the Disney+ series is ending, that doesn't necessarily mean Cox is finished playing the Man Without Fear. The actor is still hopeful that Matt Murdock could appear in future MCU projects, including more Marvel movies.

When asked about the possibility of returning as Daredevil, Cox offered a short but encouraging response: "Maybe this will open the door for that. We'll see."

Marvel has plenty of opportunities to bring Daredevil back, and considering how much Cox has invested in the character, it would be a shame if Season 3 marked his final appearance.

For now, Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2027, bringing Matt Murdock's latest television chapter to an end.

Hopefully, Cox gets another chance to wear the red suit somewhere in the MCU. If nothing else, Marvel owes his six-year-old son another chance to see his dad be a superhero.
